Whenever I step on Wind Dancer, I step into God’s natural world and step out of city streets, noise, and created environments. I leave behind television and television ads, automobiles and expressways, office schedules and all land-related responsibilities (well, almost).
God’s world is sun and rain, glassy seas and stormy waves. It is warm and cold, dry and wet. It is sunrises and sunsets, skies filled with beautiful cumulus clouds and ominous thunderheads. It is a night sky bright with moon and stars and the smell of the sea. It is favorable and unfavorable winds, some boosting us along directly to our destination, other winds pounding directly at us from the direction of our destination.
Into this vast sea the sailor enters on a small sailboat, a boat that is beautifully designed to embark into God’s natural environment, to experience only what a small percentage of us are privileged to know. When a sailboat is in tune and in balance, it has strength and power and grace. It seems eager to test itself, to stretch its sailing wings, to partner with God’s natural world.
Falling In Love With Sailing
When Nelson Price fell in love with a sailboat, he did not expect to be launched into a spiritual journey of discovery. But he soon recognized that sailing offers more than an opportunity to enjoy the open water. For him, it’s a refreshment of body and spirit.
In this personal memoir, Price shares how you can realize a spiritual dimension in your experiences, whatever they may be. In Spirit Sail, you will discover:
- How the awe of a sunset with spectacular colors on every horizon feels like God touching your life.
- How the solitude of a starlit night can put you in touch with the gifts in your life.
- How simple hospitality can deepen relationships.
- How grief turns to celebration as a friend’s ashes move away from the boat and into the deep sea.
Spirit Sail is not about the feats of an around-the-world racer, but rather about the experiences of the day-sailor and coastal cruiser whose love of sailing has fed his soul. It is for all who love the out-of-doors whether in boats, on hikes, or on the bike trail. It will quicken your senses to the spiritual nourishment that is available to anyone who takes the time to see and experience it.
